Professional Workshops and Therapists Retreats
Malcolm is available to conduct workshops for professionals interested in mindfulness and Buddhist psychology. Malcolm also joins with a colleague and friend, Patrick Kearney, to provided professional training. Patrick is a scholar of Buddhism and a popular meditation teacher around Australia and S.E. Asia. Patrick is known for the clarity of his understanding and teaching.   Malcolm alone or Malcolm and Patrick together are available to run workshops in the form of half day, one, two or three day workshops as well as short retreats.  Malcolm and Patrick have worked together to combine a traditional Buddhist approach with contemporary clinical psychology. Both Patrick and Malcolm are experienced meditation practitioners having nearly 30 years consistent Buddhist meditation practice. This experience includes ordaining as Buddhist monks and attending intensive retreats in Burma, Thailand, Australia and USA.

Target group
The workshops and retreats are provided for therapists (e.g. counsellors, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, GPs, social workers, occupational therapists or other mental health professionals or psychotherapy practitioners). Malcolm and Patrick provide both basic and advanced workshops. The basic workshops are directed at both therapists who are new to the practice as well those who already use mindfulness related strategies in clinical practice. The advanced workshops are a progression from basic workshops and are conducted for clinicians who have some experience with the practice.

Aim of the workshops

  • To inform therapists who may be new to this practice about its emerging potential and provide some ways it can be used therapeutically.
  • To enhance the skills and understanding of therapists who already use mindfulness as part of their therapeutic repertoire, and provide new ideas, as well as stimulation and discussion about approaches already used.
  • To provide clarity about the contextual basis of mindfulness and related practices by highlighting Buddhist psychology/philosophy.
  • To provide exercises and guidelines for ways to use mindfulness and related practices with specific clinical presentations both in group and individual modalities.

The short retreats provide an opportunity for personal practice under qualified guidance.
